Tarset Burn, Bellingham , Northumberland
The Tarset burn was actively eroding the bank below Tarset Castle and in July 2008 a large landslip occurred.
The Tyne River Trust in conjunction with Natural England asked us to come up with a solution to stabilize the bank. After some investigation it was found that a substantial amount of the old stone revetment was still in place. We opted to replicate what was done 100’s of years ago, using 100m2 of locally sourced building sandstone and rebuilt the damaged section. The large Alder trees surrounding the bank where pollarded to reduce any further problems with uprooting and cut at about 5ft high to stop the sheep grazing any re growth. A tree planting project is planned for the winter.
